Notes on Modesty
“Modesty has a lot more to do with the condition of our hearts than with the specifics of our wardrobes.”
Modesty to me, is built on the foundation that a woman does not value or lacks respect for herself- and while there is some truth to this, we must also consider the fact that a woman who respects herself knows that her worth, and understands that she is not limited to what she wears, but how she goes about life and her attitude towards her gift of life. In the past, modesty has somehow been linked to humility but they are different terminologies, they should not be used to compliment the other. Self-respect is knowing- truly knowing how God views you and ultimately, this has nothing to do with what you wear. Self-respect is knowing your boundaries and how you should be treated by others.
I understand that some women prefer to dress conservatively as a means to protect themselves from the judgment of others but isn’t this a confining way of life? It communicates to the world that you value whatever biased perspectives they’ve made of you, which is unfair to you because everyone has unique experiences that shape their views on life.
